8:10 – 8:30 D.E.A.R: Drop Everything and Read

During this time everyone is expected to drop everything and read while waiting in the hall for class to begin.

8:30 – 8:45 Journaling/Housekeeping

During this time, students are expected to journal in their journals while the teacher is engaged in housekeeping tasks such as attendance, parent notes, field trip money, etc.

 

8:45 - 9:45 Reader’s Workshop

During this time, I will work with guided reading groups.  Guided reading groups are groups of students that have been formed based on their reading level as indicated by the DRA testing.  These students all fall within the same level.  During this time, the other students will be working with volunteers as well as at the various literacy centers.

9:45 – 10:45 Writer’s Workshop

During this time, our class will work on a specific writing skill.  Writer's Workshop is an interdisciplinary writing technique which can build students' fluency in writing through continuous, repeated exposure to the process of writing.

Snack will be during writing in that students will be allowed to eat their snacks while writing.

10:45 – 11:00 Skills Block

During this time, our class will work on a specific skill.  Skills range from phonics to grammar to reading comprehension.

11:00 – 11:55 Mathematics

During this time, our class will work on mathematics.  We will be using the Math Investigations program. I believe in hands on approach when it comes to teaching Mathematics.  I employ the use of manipulatives and incentives to teach real-life math skills.

12:35 – 1:25 Social Studies / Art

During this time, our class will work on social studies or art.  The Social Studies lessons often pull in reading and writing skills that we are currently working on.

1:25 – 1:55 P.E.

During this time, our class will have recess.

1:55 – 2:40 Science

During this time, our class will work on science.  Again, science lessons will often reinforce current reading and writing skills being taught in the classroom.

2:40 – 2:55 Wrap-Up/Prepare for dismissal
