 2006-2007

“Leap Into Learning”

7:40 – 8:00 am : D.E.A.R. Time “Drop Everything and Read”

During this time, students are expected to quietly read while waiting for class to begin.  Homework is to be turned in upon entry into the classroom.  Agendas are to be left open above the student’s cubby for teacher inspection.

  8:00 – 8:10 am : Announcements

  8:10 – 8:30 am : Language Arts

During this time, students will receive instruction in the area of language arts.  This includes language conventions, writer’s craft, vocabulary, spelling, and phonics.   Below are some resources that will be used for instruction:

8:30 – 10:00 am : Reading Block

During this time, our students will be immersed in a 90 minute block of activities related to reading.  They will be required to read independently on their Accelerated reader Level.  They will also engage in literacy centers, guided reading activities, and whole group instruction.   10:00 – 10:45 am : Writing Block

During this time, our class will work on a specific writing skill.  Writer’s Workshop is an interdisciplinary writing technique which can build student’s fluency in writing through continuous, repeated exposure to the process of writing.  Below are some resources that will be used for instruction:

10:45 – 11:45 am : Math Block

During this time, our class will work on mathematics.  We will be using the Harcourt Mathematics program.    I believe in a hands on approach when it comes to teaching mathematics.  I enjoy the use of manipulatives and incentives to teach real-life math skills.  Below are some resources that will be used for instruction:

  11:46 – 12:11 pm : Lunch

  12:15 – 12:30 pm : Read Aloud

      During this time, I will be reading a chapter text to the students. 

12:30 – 1:00 pm : Social Studies/Science

During this time, I will alternate between weekly between Science instruction and Social Studies instruction.  

1:00 – 1:30 pm : Activities

\ 1:30 – 1:50 am : Recess  

  2:10 pm : Dismissal
